My friend\’s grandma (and now her entire family) makes amazing sweet mustard pickles. She\’s loved them ever since she was a kid, and whenever she makes them, her mood always lifts – reminded that someone loves her, and that she always has somewhere to call home.
Sugar critics would call foul, as there\’s two cups of sugar in the recipe (which makes about eight to ten cups). But the rest of it is good spices like turmeric, and a heaping of fresh veggies…so what I\’m thinking is: who cares?
If something makes you happy, the bulk of the ingredients are wholesome, you eat really well in general and you\’re not pouring it down your throat, it\’s going to do you more good than harm. Health is all about balance: figuring out what makes your body, mind and spirit feel good and working from there.
