Irritable Bowel Syndrome

It’s time to enjoy a happy, healthy gut

i understand how debilitating uncontrolled IBS can be. The great news is this …
Digestive upset doesn’t have to control your life anymore.

Your functional roadmap to healthy digestion.

An IBS diagnosis means your doctor has ruled out any serious digestive disease or structural abnormality, leaving you with a ‘functional’ condition of daily symptoms that can be painful or embarrassing.

Fully Resolve your IBS

IBS is a common, chronic condition characterised by a group of symptoms that occur for over 6 months. Symptoms can vary in severity, type, frequency, and include: bloating, abdominal pain, discomfort, cramping, changes in appetite and bowel movements; diarrhoea, constipation or both, urgency, excess gas (farting, burping) and nausea.

Causes of IBS are complex and overlap with many other conditions, leading to poor response to conventional treatments.

New research points to IBS being a gut–brain axis disorder. Ongoing stress and mood issues can drive IBS symptoms, whilst gut dysfunction can worsen mood and elevate anxiety and stress. The vagus nerve connects the gut-brain axis and controls our digestion. Gut function is reduced when vagal nerve function is reduced, due to chronic stress, fatigue, pain, infections, PTSD, childhood trauma, anxiety and depression. These factors can also lead to abdominal visceral hypersensitivity (more sensitive, feel more pain), which can also occur from the hypervigilance and anxiety caused by chronic IBS.

As a result, effective IBS treatment needs to include mind-body therapies. By taking a fully integrated whole-body approach we can now fully resolve your IBS.

We now know that SIBO, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, causes up to 80% of IBS. IBS and SIBO can be triggered by food poisoning, parasites, infections, yeast, environmental toxins, mould exposure, insufficient hydrochloric acid or enzyme production. Dysbiosis, an imbalance between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria, is also a key factor in developing IBS.

Advanced, state of the art functional testing is now available to identify potential triggers, SIBO, dysbiosis, yeast, parasites, digestive markers, pathogenic bacteria, inflammatory markers, leaky gut and DNA (PCR) microbiome testing, providing more precise assessment for targeted treatment.

The latest science tells us that genetics, methylation issues, motility issues, thyroid, hormone disorders, viruses, insufficient bile via gallbladder and poor liver function can all contribute to IBS.

How I help

Using the functional wellness approach I get to the root cause and address all contributing factors to fully resolve your symptoms.

We now know that Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) causes up to 80% of IBS symptoms. Issues that can lead to SIBO and IBS include food poisoning, parasites, infections, yeast, environmental toxins, mould exposure, insufficient hydrochloric acid or enzyme production. Dysbiosis, an imbalance between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria, is also a key factor in developing IBS without SIBO.

Advanced functional testing is now available to identify potential triggers and confirm underlying issues, SIBO, dysbiosis, yeast, parasites, digestive markers, pathogenic bacteria, inflammatory markers, leaky gut and DNA (PCR) microbiome testing, providing more precise assessment for targeted treatment.

The latest science tells us that genetics, methylation issues, motility issues, thyroid, hormone disorders, viruses, insufficient bile via gallbladder and poor liver function can all contribute to IBS.

I heal your gut and restore your health and wellbeing.
Learn what, when, how to eat, and why this best suits you.

By getting to the bottom of your gut issues, my aim is to help reduce your risk of staying on restrictive diets longer than you need. Long-term restricted eating is hard work, and can lead to nutritional deficiencies and if too restricted, more food intolerances. Individual dietary and nutrition advice is given to reduce any food anxiety and support your IBS recovery.

If you have had IBS for many years, it may take us a few months to address the underlying causes of your individual digestive symptoms and start to turn them around. Symptom relief is provided whilst we’re making these changes.

Gut-Brain Therapies

The new understanding of how the gut, brain and nervous system are connected and communicate with each other offers new treatment approaches for gut healing. To get better outcomes for you, I offer Neurofeedback, PEMF, Hypnotherapy, Polyvagal (vagus nerve) healing, Butekyo breathing, mindfulness, positive mindset and behaviour change and emotional and trauma release healing techniques.

Gut-directed hypnotherapy is a well-validated IBS treatment helping with all digestive complaints. It combines relaxation techniques with suggestions and guided imagery to help reset communication between the gut and the brain.

Carolyn guided my recovery from long standing IBS for 6 months.  I came into the process with very little knowledge and have benefited greatly from her depth of expertise in nutrition. She genuinely cares and puts a lot of time and energy into making sure I understand the process and she tailored my treatment to suit my sensitive body. Carolyn also helped resolve my insomnia with gentle supplements and helping me believe in my internal healing power.
