Creative, Healthy Ways to Add Flavour

When it comes to seasoning your food, sauces, cheese and salt aren\’t your only options – though they\’re the ones most people turn to.

Adding fruit, dried or fresh, to salads is a great way to increase flavour. Grapes add a nice pop of sweetness and acidity to salads which contain salty elements like fish or cheese; apricots are great match for green capsicum, or other sweet, green vegetables. Pears work wonderfully with nuts.

Herbs are packed with vitamins, and have an incredible range of flavours to offer. Sweet basil works wonders in a tomato salad, or with any kind of marinated vegetables. Mint pairs perfectly with broccoli, or anything with a slight spice (like a harissa yoghurt dressing). Dill loves fish and potatoes.

Similarly, seasoning your food doesn\’t just have to mean salt and pepper. Turmeric rubbed onto cauliflower gives it a wonderful colour and flavour. Some chili flakes shaken on top of your dish will help increase your tolerance for spice, and make you really spend time savoring your food as you\’ll need to eat more slowly. Paprika can be sweet or smoky, and works very well with other spices. Garlic adds sweet, nutty flavours and gives your immune system a boost.

The best thing you can do is experiment, figure out what you like, and what you don\’t; to reach for something different before you go for cheese, cream, or handfuls of salt.
